A long drive ahead of us today as we blast across the border into Queensland and a stopover at the iconic Queensland town of Charleville where we’ll enjoy some good old country entertainment.
Map
This shows the area covered during the day, from Inverell, NSW, to Charleville, Qld.

Highlights along the way
Having a look at that map, there’s a number of ways we could get from Inverell to Charleville, and knowing that rarely are the roads what you would expect, anything’s possible. Some of the main towns through that area are Moree, St George, and Roma. The most direct route is 770km (about 9 hours driving).
Breakfast
We’ll gather at the Inverell Civic Centre, with breakfast being catered by the Inverell High School P & C.
St George
Lunch will be in St George, catered by the St Patrick’s School P & F. St George is a typical Queensland rural town, with wide streets. The town is a centre for cotton growing, sheep and wheat. It is situated on the Balonne River.
Charleville
Charleville is 758km west of Brisbane. Some of the things to see in Charleville include the Royal Flying Doctor Service museum. Slim Dusty sang a song about Charleville.
The Charleville tourism site says “Not many rural places have a choice of supermarkets or butcher’s shops. We have two supermarkets, sundry corner stores, delis, cafes, three butchers and two bakeries. No one should go hungry in Charleville.”
Population: 3,300
